Remove ‘dem’ from pandemic and “panic” remains. That was precisely how a Palm Beach school board member this week described the mood on local school campuses. It seems apt. While the school district prepares to reopen school sites next week, the Health Department’s Director is expressing concerns about substantial increases in COVID-19 cases among teenagers. Meanwhile, the teacher’s union calls for the Superintendent’s resignation, convinced that the school system is unprepared for reopening. Yet, the school system is moving forward. Certainly, a complex situation but one demanding calm, clear, leadership making decisions based on accurate facts and evidence, not “panic.”
