Amidst continuing discomforting news about COVID-19 and frequent reminders of unjust, racist and violent treatment of our neighbors, colleagues and friends, reports of a record-breaking number of votes cast by mail in this week’s primary election offered a refreshing respite. Given the incredible challenges we currently face, never has it been more important for people to vote. In South Florida, to see so many exercise this essential right despite the physical challenges is an immensely positive sign. It suggests that people care. It suggests that the democratic process might work. It could lead to good solutions. Here’s hoping.
