Message from Emilio

As we close out fiscal year 2012-2013, it is fitting that we recognize all those whose hard work and dedication made this a groundbreaking year for ChildNet and children in care.  From our provider agencies and staff to foster parents and community partners, we have witnessed the incredible outcomes that come from working together as a cohesive team.

In October 2012, ChildNet expanded into Palm Beach County as the lead agency. The expertise of staff and the support of wonderful providers and partners, helped to realize an incredible turn around in performance for the child welfare system in Palm Beach County.  The child welfare system in Broward County has remained in the top tier of performance for lead agencies across the state. The positive outcomes seen over the past year are a testament to the innovative processes and well-honed practices of child welfare professional and system supporters.

On behalf of the children in care, thank you for making a difference!

Emilio Benitez, President & CEO, ChildNet, Inc.

Transitioning Youth Success Stories: Aaron & Melinda

Aaron Dames and Melinda Paul were among the more than 60 students who enjoyed the chance to be cheered on by their case managers, life coaches, caregivers and peers at the 9th Annual Transitional Independent Living Build On Your Dreams Graduation Ceremony, held at Broward College's Bailey Hall on Thursday, June 20.

Aaron graduated from Whiddon-Rogers Education Center high school in Fort Lauderdale. Despite a history of abuse, school instability and the loss of his mother, Aaron, who was known as the "Mayor of Whiddon-Rogers," became president and graduated salutatorian of his senior class. He will attend the University of Central Florida to pursue a degree in hospitality and tourism.  "It has not always been an easy road, but walking across that stage with others in foster care makes me especially proud of what I have achieved," said Aaron.

Melinda recently completed the medical billing and coding program at Sheridan Technical Center.  She is a determined young lady who has dedicated the last two years of her life as a full-time wife, mother and student. "I continue to set goals for my future and aim high," said Melinda.

Partner Agencies FY 2013-14

ChildNet recently completed contracting with partner agencies to provide a comprehensive system of care. These services include case management, family preservation, foster home management, and residential group care.

"We are fortunate to have such an incredible group of high quality partner agencies in our community," says Emilio Benitez, ChildNet President & CEO.  "We look forward to working with all of them to ensure the safety, stability, and permanency of children involved in the child welfare system."

ChildNet has contracted with 24 agencies in Broward County to provide 46 programs and 14 agencies in Palm Beach County to provide 40 programs.  For a complete list of all our provider agencies and programs in Broward County, click HERE, and for Palm Beach County, click HERE.
Community Supports Back to School

It's that time of the year; the end of the summer when parents rush around to buy backpacks, pens, pencils, and notebooks to get the kids back to school. Children in foster care in Broward and Palm Beach counties are fortunate to have a community of caring people who provide these needed supplies.

Thanks to Brinkley Morgan, Broward Lions Club, Calvary Chapel, Cherry Bekaert & Holland LLP, Children's Opportunity Group, Children's Services Council, Everglades Direct, FAPA, HairCuttery, Junior Welfare Society, Memorial Healthcare System, Parkland Women's Club, and the Community Back to School Bash in Palm Beach for taking care of our communities most vulnerable children.

Case Managers Honored

Georgia Green, a ChildNet Child Advocate, was recently recognized by Raymond, a foster parent in Broward, for her outstanding professionalism. "Georgia is passionate, and works diligently to ensure the needs of the children are met on a daily basis," shares Raymond.  "She makes a point to go beyond the call of duty by assisting foster parents as needed.  She approaches every opportunity with a positive attitude, and never says ‘no,'" continues Raymond.  "Instead she says ‘let me see how we can handle that,' a response every foster parent wants to hear."

Palm Beach foster parents, Glenn & Pamela, recognized Children's Home Society Dependency Case Manager, Alisha Patterson.  "She has been a wonderful case manager and a pleasure to work with, and she responds to requests and phone calls promptly.  We have really felt like part of a team with Alisha, and the success shows in the boys."

Congratulations to Georgia and Alisha!
