Derrick S. Roberts, General Counsel
Derrick S. Roberts, General Counsel, joined the ChildNet team in September 2003. Derrick received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Miami. In March 2001, he was appointed by Attorney General Robert A. Butterworth as an Assistant Attorney General in the Children's Legal Services Division. During his tenure, Derrick served on the Dependency Court Permanency Pilot Project, a specialized trial unit funded by the Children's Service Counsel in an effort to provide safe permanent placements for abused, abandoned or neglected children who have been in the system for over a year.
Prior to joining the Attorney General's Office, Mr. Roberts served as an Assistant State Attorney in the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit, Palm Beach County Florida under State Attorney Barry Krischer. During his time as an Assistant State Attorney, Derrick was promoted to the Termination of Parental Rights Unit, a trial unit dedicated to achieving permanency for abused, abandoned or neglected children. In 2006, Derrick Roberts was selected to serve on the Florida Bar Legal Needs of Children Committee. In 2007, Derrick participated as a teacher for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy Training the Lawyer to Represent the Whole Child hosted by Nova Southeastern University's Law School. He is an active member of the National Association of Counsel for Children, The T.J. Reddick Bar Association and The Stephen R. Booher American Inn of Court.
