The Subsidized Independent Living Program offers 16-17 year olds in foster care the opportunity to receive a subsidy
and other supports in order to live on their own. Participating teens are under the supervision of ChildNet and the courts.
Requirements for Subsidized Independent Living Program:
- Maintain a good standing in the community, demonstrate responsible behavior
- Currently enrolled full-time in an educational program
and have a 2.0 GPA or have satisfactory progress in GED
- Earn a minimum of $100 per month
- Have a savings account
- Participate in Independent Living activities
- Cooperate with your Independent Living Specialist
- Youth must be 16 years old, demonstrate specific Independent Living skills and have a permanency goal of adoption, long term licensed care or Independent Living
Youth participating in the Subsidized Independent Living Program receive up to maximum of $892 per month to cover
living expenses. They also receive an annual clothing allowance. Teens will complete a Subsidized Independent
Living Program agreement and contact their case worker twice a week.
