Since the transition to Community Based Care began in Broward County in 2003,
ChildNet and its network of local providers and partners have significantly
improved the quality of care for Broward's most vulnerable children and their
caregivers. ChildNet and other Community Based Care agencies statewide have
made substantial progress in reuniting families, increasing the rate of adoption
and improving foster care in Broward County.
Children are no longer "stuck" in foster care.
Florida: Paid placements have decreased 28% and all out of home care has decreased 10%.
Broward: Average length of stay for paid placements has decreased from 27.8 months to 15.2
months, for all out of home care from 17 months to 11.6 months.
Children are exiting the dependency system more quickly.
Florida: The percentage of children exiting dependency in less than 12 months has increased
from 30% to 54%.
Broward: Children in care more than 12 months has decreased 19%.
More children are being reunited with their families.
Florida: The percentage of children reunified has increased from 45% to 68%.
Broward: The percentage of children reunified has increased from 43% to 64%.
More children are being adopted.
Florida: The rate of adoptions have increased from 28% to 41.5%.
Broward: ChildNet has exceeded its state mandated adoption goal every year since 2004.
This year by 20%.
Communities are meeting the challenge.
Florida: The number of foster home beds has increased from 8,864 in 1999 to 14,812 in 2005.
Broward: On July 31, 2007 Broward's number of licensed foster home beds exceeded 1000 for
the first time since 2003.
