When you open your heart to adopt a child you are making a commitment that will last forever. It is an important decision that requires considerable thought and discussion. Adoption is a life changing experience that requires patience and preparation. We focus on matching each child that is available for adoption with the most suitable family. Although we solely serve children in Broward County, we will match our children with families that are outside of Broward County.
Potential adoptive parents must attend a 30-hour Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting (M.A.P.P.) training to prepare them for the parenting role. In addition, they must undergo a criminal background check and pass a home study assessment. During this process a counselor will meet with all family members to discuss their reasons for wanting to adopt, their financial circumstances, their parenting styles and other relevant factors.
Here are some things to consider when deciding whether to adopt a child:
- Why do I want to adopt a child?
- Can I love this child as my own?
- Can I provide a stable home for a child?
- Can I afford to take another person into my family?
- Am I ready to open my heart to another's needs?
- Am I willing to go through all the paperwork and other requirements to have a child?
- How will I deal with my child's questions about birth parents?
- When will I tell my child about adoption?
- How will I handle friends' and family's questions and comments about adoption?
